BREAKING! Tinubu Removes Finance Minister

President Bola Tinubu has removed Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite as Minister of State for Finance and appointed Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as her replacement, in a dramatic cabinet reshuffle that political observers are linking to last week’s explosive budget defence hearing.

The development comes exactly seven days after Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, member representing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, confronted the Minister of Finance over ₦1.15 trillion in approved capital funds that remain undisbursed—with capital projects across Nigeria sitting at zero percent execution.

It was Wednesday, February 25th, when Hon. Ikwechegh—a member of the House Committee on Aids and Loans—took the floor at the Appropriation Committee’s budget defence session and began firing questions that would ultimately reverberate all the way to Aso Rock.

Armed with documents from his committee assignment, he laid out a disturbing pattern:

$1.2 billion Digital infrastructure

$500 million Economic stimulus

$500 million MSME support (Dec 2025)

$500 million (AfDB) Economic governance/Energy transition Approved Nov 2025

$21M + ¥15B + €4B Recent executive loan request

₦1.15 trillion 30% of 2025 capital budget Approved but Not Disbursed

Despite this avalanche of borrowed money and record-breaking revenues from agencies like FIRS and Customs, Hon. Ikwechegh noted that capital projects remained at zero disbursement.

“With all these funds put together… I want you to enlighten us on why the 2024 budget is yet to be fully implemented, and why the 2025 budget has only been funded 34%—most of which is recurrent expenditure.”

Then came the question that silenced the room:

“I want you to enlighten us on why our capital projects still remain at zero. Talking about our country. This is our country. Are you not in Nigeria? Why the capital of the Nigerian government remains at zero in 2026?”

When pressed, Minister of Finance Wale Edun shifted responsibility to his Minister of State, Doris Uzoka-Anite, claiming she handled disbursements.

The committee adjourned to Thursday, February 26th, summoning Uzoka-Anite to provide answers.

She appeared. She confirmed that ₦1.15 trillion was indeed approved. But she claimed “pre-disbursement conditions” had not been met by some ministries.

Hon. Ikwechegh was ready. He rose and asked:

“Mr. Chairman, can the minister tell this committee which specific ministry met all conditions and still did not receive funding? If none existed, why was ₦1.15 trillion approved when the government knew conditions weren’t met?”

The minister could not name a single ministry.

The room understood the implication: either the money was approved without proper verification, or it was being withheld without justification.

Speaking after the hearing, Hon. Ikwechegh framed the issue in stark legal terms:

“If this infraction is identified, it means there has been misappropriation of funds—which is a crime.”

At 3:30 PM on Tuesday, March 3rd—exactly one week after Hon. Ikwechegh’s initial interrogation—the presidency announced a cabinet reshuffle.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Uzoka-Anite has been moved to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State.

It is her third portfolio in two years, having previously served as Minister of Trade and Investment before her appointment to Finance.

Replacing her is Taiwo Oyedele, the 50-year-old economist and tax expert who chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. Oyedele, a 22-year veteran of PwC who rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, now awaits Senate confirmation.

The official statement made no mention of the budget defence hearing or Hon. Ikwechegh’s interrogation.

But the timeline has left political observers drawing their own conclusions.

For ordinary Nigerians, this sequence of events demonstrates something rare: accountability in action.

A lawmaker asked questions. A minister could not answer. One week later, that minister was removed from her portfolio.

Hon. Ikwechegh’s constituents in Aba North and Aba South—a commercial hub—now see their representative making waves at the highest level.

When he asked, “Why the capital of the Nigerian government remains at zero in 2026?” —he was asking for the roads, hospitals, and schools that never got built despite approved funds.

Now, because of his questions, the nation is watching. And the government has responded.

Despite the cabinet reshuffle, the core question Hon. Ikwechegh raised remains unanswered:

Where is the ₦1.15 trillion?

If funds were approved by the National Assembly, borrowed from international lenders, and generated by revenue agencies—yet never reached the capital projects they were intended for—the legal implications are unavoidable.

As Hon. Ikwechegh himself stated:

“If this infraction is identified, it means there has been misappropriation of funds—which is a crime.”

The removal of a minister does not erase that question. It merely raises another:

Will there be further accountability

Iran’s New Leader Rejected Negotiation With Trump Over -Arafa

In a strongly worded message released Tuesday morning published on various social media platforms, Arafa declared that diplomacy had ended and warned Washington that it had crossed a “red line.”

Iran’s newly declared Supreme Leader, Alireza Arafa, has issued a fiery statement vowing retaliation against the United States and Israel following what Tehran describes as an unprovoked military assault on its territory.

In a strongly worded message released Tuesday morning published on various social media platforms, Arafa declared that diplomacy had ended and warned Washington that it had crossed a “red line.”

“The time for negotiations is over. The United States has chosen to cross the red line, the line of irreparable harm,” he said.

“By launching this war, they have signed their own death warrant: they don’t know when or how the axe will fall, but we hold the reins.”

The statement comes days after coordinated US and Israeli airstrikes reportedly targeted Iranian military installations and strategic infrastructure, marking a dramatic escalation in already fraught relations between Tehran, Washington and Tel Aviv.

The strikes followed months of mounting tension over Iran’s regional influence, missile development and alleged nuclear activities.

Washington has long accused Tehran of backing armed proxy groups across the Middle East and destabilising the region — accusations Iranian officials have repeatedly denied.

The latest military action was widely described by Iranian authorities as “unprovoked,” with officials insisting that Iran had not initiated hostilities.

Arafa dismissed Western claims that the strikes were pre-emptive measures against a nuclear threat.

“They brandish the nuclear specter like a scarecrow, blinded by their arrogance,” he said.

“They have no idea of the true extent of our power or what we are prepared to unleash.”

US Is Likely To Attack Iran During Ramadan: IIhan Omar

US loves to attack Muslim during Ram

US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has stirred controversy after posting a strong statement on social media regarding past and potential US military actions in the Middle East.

In her tweet, Omar said that Iraq was attacked by the United States during Ramadan and claimed it is “sickening” to think that the US might again strike Iran during the holy month. She further alleged that the US “apparently loves to strike Muslim countries during Ramadan” and suggested that such actions are not about violations of international law but about “who they worship.”

Amend Contitution To Make Room For State Police- FG

  • The Senate to amend Nigeria’s constitution to make provision for state police.

President Bola Tinubu has urged the Senate to amend Nigeria’s constitution to make provision for state police.

Tinubu made the plea during an interfaith breaking of fast (Iftar) with senators at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday evening.

The President, who said his administration is facing challenges posed by banditry, terrorism and insurgency, expressed the belief that state police could provide the solution to the problem.

“We are facing terrorism, banditry, and insurgency. But we will never fail to make a right response to this cause. What I will ask for tonight is for you (senators) to start thinking how best to amend the constitution to incorporate the state police for us to secure our country, take over our forests from marauders, and free our children from fear.

“I have a lot of credit for bold reforms. Without your collaboration and inspiration, those reforms would not be possible. We are reformists together.

“What we gave up and what we stopped is monumental corruption in the subsidy system.

“We don’t want to participate in monumental corruption and arbitrage foreign exchange.

“You don’t have to chase me for dollars; you could see what Nigeria is today. You should be proud, and I am glad you are. What we are enjoying is a stable economy, and prosperity is beckoning us. We need to work hard, and this attendance means a lot to me,” Tinubu told the lawmakers.

N835 Million Contributed To Finance Alleged Coup – Defence Headquarters

Last month, the Defence Headquarters announced it had concluded investigations into an alleged plot to overthrow Bola Tinubu and forwarded its findings to the appropriate authorities.

According to an exclusive report by Premium Times, investigators traced about N835 million allegedly used to finance the conspiracy to two private companies.

Former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva is accused of providing N785 million through Purple Waves Limited, an Abuja-based construction firm. The company’s secretary, John Ebokpo, has reportedly been arrested, while Mr Sylva—who denies any involvement—remains at large.

A second individual, Moses Zakwa, allegedly transferred N50 million through Clay Ring Services Limited, a Lagos-based company where he is listed as a director. Efforts to reach company officials were unsuccessful.

The military said its findings implicated several officers and described the alleged conduct as contrary to the professional standards of the Armed Forces. About 40 suspects—including senior military officers, a police officer, and civilians—are reportedly in detention following a covert operation coordinated by the Army Headquarters and the State Security Service. Some civilians are also being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, sources said the alleged plot was initially conceived around the May 29, 2023 presidential inauguration but was abandoned due to funding and logistical challenges before being revived in 2025. Authorities are reportedly awaiting presidential approval to set up a court-martial for the implicated officers.

Gabriel Magalhaes Mocked Richarlison After Defeat

Gabriel Magalhaes mocked Tottenham Hotspur and Richarlison on Instagram after Arsenal secured a dominant win in the north London derby. The defender was heavily involved in several controversial moments during the match. His post-match social media activity quickly drew attention following the heated encounter.

Arsenal claimed an emphatic 4–1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The result mirrored the scoreline from the earlier derby meeting this season. The win pushed the Gunners five points clear at the top of the Premier League table. They have played one game more than Manchester City.

The match included a major flashpoint involving Gabriel. Tottenham thought they had equalised when Randal Kolo Muani found the net with Spurs trailing by one goal. However, the strike was ruled out after the forward was judged to have pushed Gabriel in the build-up.

Television replays suggested the contact was minimal. Tottenham’s interim boss Igor Tudor reacted angrily on the touchline. He appeared to signal that Gabriel had exaggerated the incident. Some Spurs supporters also argued online that the Arsenal defender should have received a red card earlier in the first half for bringing down Kolo Muani as the last man.

Despite the controversy, the key decisions went in Arsenal’s favour. Gabriel later took to Instagram to celebrate and provoke his rivals. He posted a photo from the team bus while holding his Player of the Match award. He also displayed a four of hearts card alongside snacks and a drink. The Brazilian tagged Richarlison in the post, continuing their ongoing social media rivalry.

After the match, Mikel Arteta expressed pride in his team’s performance. The Arsenal manager said the victory showed the squad’s character after a difficult run of form. He urged his players to maintain consistency and keep building momentum in the title race.
