BREAKING: DSS Fixed February 25 To Arraign Nasir El-Rufai

The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a three-count criminal charge against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over alleged cybercrime and breach of national security. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that El-Rufai will be arraigned on February 25 before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik fixed the date after the Chief Judge of the court, Justice John Tsoho, assigned the case to her.

The charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/99/2026, was instituted by the DSS, also known as the Nigerian secret police.

According to court documents, the security agency accused El-Rufai of unlawfully intercepting the telephone communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

The DSS alleged that on February 13, while appearing as a guest on Arise TV’s Prime Time Programme in Abuja, the former governor admitted that he and his associates intercepted the NSA’s phone communications.

The offence is said to be contrary to Section 12(1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

In the second count, El-Rufai was accused of admitting during the same television interview that he knew an individual who unlawfully intercepted the NSA’s communications but failed to report the matter to relevant security agencies. The charge is said to be punishable under Section 27(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

Count three alleged that El-Rufai and others still at large, sometime in 2026 in Abuja, used technical equipment or systems that compromised public safety and national security by unlawfully intercepting the NSA’s communications.

The DSS said the act was contrary to Section 131(2) of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.

Recall that during the Arise TV interview, El-Rufai claimed he overheard Ribadu directing security operatives to detain him.

He linked the alleged directive to what he described as an attempted arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on February 12 upon his return from Cairo, Egypt.

The development comes amid a series of legal troubles for the former governor.

He was earlier detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged corruption.

Though granted administrative bail around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, he was reportedly taken into custody immediately by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

Confirming the development, ICPC spokesperson, John Odey, said in a message circulated on a journalists’ WhatsApp group: “Malam Nasiru El-Rufai is in the custody of the commission in connection with ongoing investigations

Dadiyata’s Disappearance Case Gets New Attention

  • DSS has invited suspects for questioning over his disappearance.

The case of Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, is gaining attention again as the DSS has invited suspects for questioning over his disappearance.

Recall that Dadiyata was taken in 2019 by unknown men, and since then, no one has clearly explained what happened to him. His disappearance caused serious public concern back then, with many Nigerians demanding answers, but the case slowly went quiet over time.

Now, his wife has spoken up again, reminding Nigerians that her husband is still missing.

She shared how painful and confusing the past years have been for the family, as they still don’t know if he is alive or not.

With the DSS now stepping in to question suspects, many people are hoping this could finally bring some truth to light.

However, authorities have not yet shared full details about who was invited or what new information they have.

For many Nigerians, this case is not just about one man, it’s about justice, accountability, and making sure such incidents are not forgotten.

Pregnant Woman Arrested For Girls Trafficking To Ghana

A heavily pregnant woman, who runs a bar in the Rantiya area of Jos South local government area of Plateau State, has been arrested by the state government for allegedly trafficking three young girls to Ghana for prostitution.

The suspect, simply identified as Mrs Yakubu, was paraded on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission, SGEOC, headquarters in Jos, alongside another woman and the rescued victims by Chairperson of the Commission, Olivia Dazyam.

While briefing journalists, Dazyam said the girls were rescued in Ghana and repatriated to Nigeria. She further stated that the girls who gave their names as Humata Ilya, Sendy Emmanuel, and Dorathy Yakubu, aged between 18 and 19, confessed that Mrs Yakubu lured them to Ghana with the promise of lucrative jobs only to force them into prostitution.

She stated that the victims, two from Adamawa and one from Plateau, were made to swear to an oath and had to undergo some rituals that they will not betray Mrs Yakubu.

She noted that the Commission received information about the trafficking and worked with security agencies to repatriate the girls.

“At the state Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission, we received information about a woman that caused the movement of two girls from Plateau State to Ghana. God helped the two girls, and they were able to get back to Jos with the help of the security agencies,” Dazyam said.

She added that the suspects trafficked the girls to Ghana for prostitution after receiving ‘blood money’ from the victims’ activities.

“We want to let the people of Plateau State know that traffickers are living in our communities. Why would you want to send young girls to Ghana to go and do what,” Dazyam said.

“As a matter of fact, two women were involved in the trafficking. One woman has also caused the trafficking of two girls from Mangu to Ghana. One escaped, and by the grace of God, she’s back safely now.

“I do not know whether they have any excuse whether to say this is out of ignorance. There has been a lot of sensitisation out there. Why would you want to send young girls to Ghana to go and do what? As we speak, one of the suspects, her own daughter 18 or 19-year-old girl, is in Ghana. What is she doing in Ghana?” the SGEOC Chairperson queried.

In a brief interview with newsmen, Mrs Yakubu confessed to the crime but expressed regret over her actions, claiming she was only helping the girls secure employment like her daughter who is also based in Ghana.

She, however, refused to specify the nature of her daughter’s work in the West African country.

Simi Criticized Over Mirabel Rape Faking False Claim

Nigerian singer Simi has come under intense criticism on social media following the confession of a TikToker, Mirabel, who admitted that her widely circulated rape allegation was not true. The online debate began on February 18 after a video surfaced on TikTok, in which Mirabel claimed she had been raped and injured with a blade inside her home.

The video spread rapidly and triggered outrage, emotional reactions, and heated conversations across the internet. While many Nigerians initially believed her story and condemned the alleged act, others expressed doubts, pointing to inconsistencies in the video. Some users accused her of clout-chasing, further dividing public opinion.

Amid the controversy, Simi took to X to speak against rape culture. She urged men to hold other men accountable and questioned why people felt triggered when rapists were called out.

Her comments, however, sparked backlash from critics who accused her of ignoring the issue of false rape accusations.

The criticism deepened after an old tweet she made in 2016 was resurfaced and misinterpreted as sexual innuendo. As the backlash grew, a fake apology screenshot began circulating online as a meme mocking the singer.

She was also given the nickname “Ikorodu Celine Dion” by some social media users. In her statement, Simi insisted that sexual violence against women remains widespread and that false claims should not be used to silence genuine victims.

“Almost every woman I know personally has been sexually assaulted at some point in their lives,” she wrote. “You can’t think it’s okay to shut people up from speaking up about assault because some people lie.”

She added that people who lie should face consequences but stressed that this was not the conversation she was having.

“How many of your male friends have they lied against? How many of your friends have actually assaulted women as vibes? Women are terrified to go out. Women in their homes are not safe either,” she said, ending with: “STOP RAPING WOMEN!!”

The situation later took a different turn after controversial social media activist VeryDarkMan disclosed that he had spoken with Mirabel over the phone.

According to him, Mirabel admitted during the conversation that the rape allegation was false. She also confessed that she created the fake TikTok account that had been sending her messages.

VeryDarkMan said Mirabel pleaded for help, describing herself as lost and helpless. She further revealed that she is an 18-year-old orphan, a lesbian, and struggles with alcohol and codeine addiction. She also admitted to engaging in self-harm as a coping mechanism.

Appealing to Nigerians, VeryDarkMan urged the public to forgive her and avoid harsh judgment, stressing that mental health challenges are real.

He also disclosed that arrangements were being made to have Mirabel taken to a rehabilitation centre.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that the case has been transferred to Ogun State for further investigation.

The incident has continued to generate strong reactions online, reopening conversations around sexual violence, false allegations, accountability, and the mental health struggles behind viral social media cases.

Three Players That Far Better Than Ronaldo: Fabio Capello

Former England manager, Fabio Capello has named three football icons he feels are better than Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Capello, the likes of Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, and Ronaldo Nazario are above the level of Ronaldo.

Speaking recently on Egyptian outlet ON Sport’s Hat-trick program, Capello said: “Cristiano [Ronaldo] is a great goalscorer and an incredible athlete, but he doesn’t have the genius of Messi, Maradona or Ronaldo Nazario.

“That genius that the others possessed is absent in Cristiano. He can’t be compared to those three.”
